MY CHANGES

I used to be a radio,
talking at every moment.
But, now I am a book,
silent, yet interesting.

I used to be a new seed,
waiting to grow.
But, now I am a tree,
tall and mighty.

I used to be a worrier,
ticking like a clock.
But, now I am a relaxed wind,
like the ocean breeze.

Brett Clark

Brett Clark lives in Jamaica Estates, New York, where she is a junior attending Francis Lewis H.S. She is an aspiring actress and co-editor of her school newspaper. The loss of her beloved Uncle Mike inspired the poem:

IF HEAVEN HAD A PHONE

I would call you
just to shoot the breeze.
If heaven had a phone,
I would call you
just to hear your voice.
If heaven had a phone,
I would call you every day
to make up for all the times I didn't before.
If heaven had a phone,
I would call you
just to know you're okay.
If heaven had a phone,
I would call you
to hear your voice one more time,
and tell you how much I love you.
But, heaven doesn't have a phone.
